Training, Certification and Apprenticeships

To ensure that we have the skilled personnel to produce the quality of workmanship we insist on, led to our investment in our own apprenticeship scheme. Starting with a close working relationship with Hertfordshire Regional College and more recently with Kier Eastern developing a working relationship with Harlow College, we now have a steady stream of apprentices with at least 6 places filled every year.

All of these individuals are locally based and hence help in the on-going process of reducing our own carbon footprint.

Some of those apprentices then qualified and went on to work on the college extension at Hertford Regional College and the EDF project on the Olympic Site. Quite simply proof that investment in the future generations of craftsmen is essential and really does work.

This investment means that Winchmore Brickwork can supply traditional brick and blockwork to the exacting standards required of our clients’ projects now and into the future.

To this end we have in place an annually reviewed training plan with Construction Skills (www.cskills.org) which we work closely with them to maintain, which helps us to promote our emphasis on the significance of the provision of training.

Training not only provides an improved and increasingly competent level of service to our clients but also provides us, at Winchmore Brickwork, with the comfort and knowledge that we are complying with all current and relevant legislation such as PUWER 1998 and MHSW 1999.

Winchmore Brickwork work closely with top advisers from Construction Skills and Train 2 Gain to ensure we get the right training at the right time to suit, separately and together, the individual and group needs of our team.

Apprentices

Apprentices are an integral part of the construction industry and Winchmore Brickwork recognize this through our committed relationship with Hertford Regional College (www.hrc.ac.uk), helping to develop the next generation of tradesmen and women.

At Winchmore Brickwork, apprentices are given every opportunity to enhance their skills and maximize their potential through first class tutelage from specialist lecturers at Hertford Regional College and the on site expertise of our experienced and fully qualified site supervisors.

Winchmore Brickwork prides itself on providing apprentices with the solid foundation for securing a long and profitable career in the construction industry, reflected in the year on year development of those willing and able to succeed, with some even going on to complete NVQ level 3 in brickwork.
